I suppose this isn't how they'll be used, but I liked laying them out this way for the photo. They're a little bit big, though, and I may need to fiddle with the seam allowance to get them down to size. I'm too tired to figure it out tonight so I'll wait until tomorrow to take another look. I've only done these 5 so far and haven't made all of the black triangles yet so it's not the end of the world if I have to rip a few.

Edited to say: I think the red triangles are too big, period. The instrux said to cut them using the specialty ruler or to cut a 5 1/8" square and then cut diagonally. This makes the red triangle 3 5/8" tall by 7 1/4" wide. I know some of the points get cut off in the process, but I suspect that this is too large. If you have any answers for me, I'm happy to hear them! I posted on Bonni's blog comments a few hours ago but haven't heard back yet.

  1. Looking good Misha! How many do you figure you have to make?

  2. Well, obviously I'll know better tomorrow but I'm guessing I'll need to do about 1/4 of each step give or take a few. Assuming there's a border, I'll need to do proportionally more of those (about half the size of a full pattern) if I do a border at all ;)

  3. I am looking for help too as now that I am putting all the blocks together (the blue string and flying geese combo blocks) the rows are much longer than the Ohio Star rows, they seem very elasticy ???

  4. Leeanne, sorry for not responding sooner. I think maybe you didn't iron well enough between the strings or starch the string blocks as recommended. If you're still having "elasticy" issues maybe some starch will help?

I spent part of yesterday taking apart my first 5 Flying Geese units (Part 7) because the seams were sewn a little bit too small. Since the black triangles are sewn on at an angle, even a slight amount of variation made my blocks too long. Today I hope to get a lot done, just gotta tear myself away from the computer long enough to get going! ;)
