Hospice Quilt

Awhile back I posted pics of two blocks I made for a quilt to be donated to the hospice in memory of our quilty friend Chris who passed away last year. The quilt has been quilted beautifully by our friend Hilda using a panto called Rita's Feather http://www.patternman.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=604

Under the Stairs

This snowshoe hare is hanging out under our stairs today. S/he was there for a bit yesterday too, but s/he does go out when it's dark. I think they may be close to getting ready to molt, as their coat is looking rather shaggy. I'm sure they're happy where they are, because it's warm and dry and a bit shaded :)

I'm shooting straight down through the metal grates, so that's what the pinkish thing is on the left. Enjoy!!

City Bunnies!

Saw a couple of these cuties in the yard while looking out the kitchen window. This one didn't mind too much when I snuck outside to snap some pictures :)

April FMQ Challenge

This month in Sew Cal Gal's challenge, we were to make a stencil of sorts using tulle, a hoop and a permanent pen. I then ironed the template on a low setting as indicated to set the ink, and then re-traced the image onto my fabric. I used my air disappearing pen, because I couldn't find the blue (water erasable) one! The pattern I used was from a Blockcentral.com applique challenge I found online. Something about tulips just speaks to me!

The printed pattern is hiding a previous month's challenge practice. I didn't have the time to make a new sandwich for today's sample, and didn't have enough space to do the entire motif.

Overall I liked the lesson, but the tulle is pretty hard on the nib of the purple pen. I made sure that I just slowly dragged it in one direction, so it would ink the fabric enough to see it. Trying to sort of "sketch" the image did NOT work, and seemed to be harsher on the nib.

Snowshoe Hares!

I have been working on bindings lately, so not much quilty pics to post at the moment, but I did see these cuties outside my bedroom window this morning and thought you might enjoy seeing them too! They're snowshoe hares and they eat the tree branches and bark. They're not entirely white because they're in the early stages of changing over their coats for the season. Comfort Blocks for Friends

One of the benefits of being part of an online community is getting to participate in group activities, like making comfort blocks for our friends when they're in need of some quilty love.

First up are two "Hug" blocks (think XOXO) for Denise, who recently had a serious surgery. The color theme is red, white and purple. I put a tutorial on how to make the Hug Blocks (aka Wonky X) on my Flickr page. Click here to go to the tutorial/set.




The next two blocks are for Aileen who also had surgery recently. The blocks are from About.com. Here is the link for the instructions. I signed all the blocks after I took these pics, and they will be on their way to their respective homes soon!

March FMQ Challenge

I quilted this sample on a double layer of fleece. I really wanted to practice this month's ideas more, but had to be extra nice to my wrist as it's been hurting lately.

Mario...Top Done

Auditioning borders now. The squares finish at 2". I have to admit, I just finger pinned. It went pretty well, I think.

Leaning toward the red border but I like the idea of the blue border with a red binding. The back will be scrappy leftovers I think. I also need to decide how to quilt it, as I do not SITD!

Oh, and Mario looks pretty pasty here but his color is a little pinker in real life.

Hannah's Quilt is Done!!

Well, it's finally done! I started this in January and had intended to finish it soon after, but I torqued (sprained) my wrist and just as it was improving I headed out to Phoenix for my yearly retreat with the Valley of the Sun gals. Unfortunately that didn't do much to help my wrist to heal so I had to wait a bit longer before I could wrap this up.

I had already quilted and bound it, I just hadn't buried all the tails and added a label. I found out 24 hours ago that my MIL was going to be meeting up with my Sis-in-law this weekend (who lives in NM) and so I quickly finished the quilt so she could take it with her. Nothing better than hand delivery!

What I worked on this week...

Quilt for a baby boy...still in progress.

The top corners are just pinned back and the other fabric is pinned behind it to see how it would look if I changed out the corners. The lower half of the photo shows what the border really looks like, and I'm not 100% happy with it at the moment (which is why I'm playing around with the top)
